Story... exhibition, guest artist Mardi Wood at High Desert Gallery.
Event Description: High Desert Gallery is excited to announce guest artist, Mardi Wood, February 17 to April 11, 2012. “A Story..”, exhibition is featured at High Desert Gallery, 10 NW Minnesota Avenue at The Oxford Hotel in downtown Bend, Oregon.
Mardi Wood's ceramic work is the result of a process developed over many years of making. Evidence of the artist's hands can be felt in her paper-thin cups and bowls. The balance and subtle weight of each piece have been created by fine adjustments made at every step of construction. Inspired by her roots in the Northwest and her family home on the Columbia River, Woods' vessels are painted with layers of glaze and oxides built up during repeated firings.
Woods now lives in Northern California, and has a second residence in Italy. Images of Maremmana cattle, drawn from the Italian landscape, often appear in her recent work.

Shot on location in Detroit / Beirut / Cairo. This innovative film sets out to tell the story of brotherhood, and ends up speaking volumes to how those connections can change the ways in which we view the world. After smuggling himself into the United States and reconnecting with his estranged sister, a conflicted young Palestinian man begins an unlikely friendship with a lonely drug addict while wrestling with the true intentions of the forces that brought him there.
