Story... exhibition, guest artist Mardi Wood at High Desert Gallery.
Event Description: High Desert Gallery is excited to announce guest artist, Mardi Wood, February 17 to April 11, 2012. “A Story..”, exhibition is featured at High Desert Gallery, 10 NW Minnesota Avenue at The Oxford Hotel in downtown Bend, Oregon.
Mardi Wood's ceramic work is the result of a process developed over many years of making. Evidence of the artist's hands can be felt in her paper-thin cups and bowls. The balance and subtle weight of each piece have been created by fine adjustments made at every step of construction. Inspired by her roots in the Northwest and her family home on the Columbia River, Woods' vessels are painted with layers of glaze and oxides built up during repeated firings.
Woods now lives in Northern California, and has a second residence in Italy. Images of Maremmana cattle, drawn from the Italian landscape, often appear in her recent work.

For smartphone customers or wireless customers thinking about making the switch to a smartphone, U.S. Cellular is hosting a free workshop on Saturday, April 7 from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at 3197 N. Hwy. 97 in Bend to guide attendees through all of the features and functions of the company’s smartphone and mobile tablet line-up, including the Android™-powered Samsung Galaxy S® II, with it’s 4.5-inch screen and 8 megapixel camera with flash. All questions are welcome from current and potential smartphone and tablet users, and attendees don’t have to be a U.S. Cellular customer.
Device Workshops are helpful for anyone who wants to make sure they are getting the most out of their handsets. Associates will answer questions and demonstrate common features such as e-mail access, web browsing, calendar synchronization, browsing for apps and how the device can be personalized to fit their lifestyles. |
